Two Former A Small Voice guests launch Kickstarter campaigns this week (or next), to fund proposed book projects, both of which look excellent.

Rich-Joseph Facun (episode 185) is funding 1804the final chapter in a trilogy documenting life in Southeast Ohio’s Appalachian Foothills. The book turns its focus to the region’s university—a powerful cultural and economic force in a largely rural, conservative area—and explores its deep, often complicated relationship with the surrounding community.

And Chris Dorley Brown (episode 97) launches his campaign next week for Near Dark, which will be published by Dewi Lewis if successfully funded. Shot in Chris's usual London stomping ground, Near Dark ventures into a mysterious territory, reflecting a less harmonious city mood, a fever dream of anxiety and unpredictability. London is just as alluring as ever but now everyone is taking shelter, keeping out of sight.

Check out both projects at the links above and pre-order a copy of the book if you like the look of it.

The BJP has announced a call for entries to its Portrait of Britainaward (Volume 8). To quote from the blurb: "This award celebrates the vibrant tapestry of cultures, faces, and stories that make up the UK today. The jury will shortlist 200 images to be featured in the Portrait of Britain Vol. 8 photobook, while 100 portraits will be named winners and exhibited in a month-long digital exhibition in partnership with JCDecaux UK – lighting up high streets, bus shelters, shopping centres and train stations throughout the country."

Deadline for entry is 25th July 2025.
