THIS WEEK ON A SMALL VOICE PODCAST...

My guest this week on the podcast is visual storyteller Kiana Hayeri, who talks about, among other things, moving to Canada from Iran as a teenager, how photography helped her bridge the culture and language gap, gender apartheid, winning awards, Afghanistan, goal setting and the dangers of ‘dilettante hit and run journalism’.

Kiana is incredibly smart (she reluctantly lets slip that she attended a school for gifted kids in Iran) and thoughtful person. She's also very successful, having won just about every major award for photojournalists going. And she's still in her 30's!

Most recently, just a week ago at the Perpignan Festival, she won the Carmignac Photojournalism Award, jointly with her collaborator, the researcher, Mélissa Cornet.
