Magnum Photos nominee Diana Markosian is an Armenian-American photographer whose images, according to the blurb on her own website, explore the relationship between memory and place. She was born in Moscow, Russia where her parents were studying, and lived the first few years of her life mainly in Armenia until, at the age of seven, she emmigrated to the United States with her mother and older brother, leaving her father behind. In 2010, she received her master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, having only discovered and fallen in love with photography 6 months previously. Her work has since taken her to some of the most remote corners of the world, where she has produced both personal and editorial work. Her images can be found in publications like National Geographic Magazine, The New Yorker and The New York Times. She has had a number of exhibitions worldwide and has won numerous high profile awards including, in 2015, the inaugural Chris Hondros Emerging Photographer Award. In 2016, she became a Magnum nominee at the relatively tender age of 27.
